Dr. David Magit

Dr. David Magit was raised in a small town just south of Boston, MA and is the youngest of three brothers. His entire family still resides in Boston. After high school, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science.

Immediately after college, he returned back to Boston to pursue a career in scientific research. Inspired by his brother’s battle with cancer, he obtained a position at the Dana-Farber Cancer Centre in Boston, MA. While at Dana Farber, he worked in the Department of Cancer Genetics, contributing in basic science in the field of breast cancer research, and participating in several studies that became published in peer-reviewed journals.

After two years in the lab, he was accepted to Tufts Medical School. During his studies, he became interested in the field of Orthopaedic Surgery, and eventually went on to complete an Orthopaedic Surgery residency at Yale University in New Haven, CT. After Yale, he attended the Kerlan Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles, CA for an Orthopaedic Sports Medicine fellowship. During this period, he served as an assistant team physician for the major sports teams in Los Angeles, including the Los Angeles Dodgers, Los Angeles Lakers, and Los Angeles Ducks. Immediately after fellowship, he continued training and attended a trauma fellowship in Feldkierk, Austria, mastering the European techniques in complex orthopaedic trauma. Finally, he also performed a mini-fellowship in complex elbow reconstruction in London, Ontario.

Today, he serves as Assistant Professor at the University of Massachusetts Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in Worcester, MA. He serves as one of six Sports Medicine attending surgeons, dealing with complex surgical and non-surgical sports-related injuries. He also specializes in complex elbow pathology, including trauma, replacement and reconstruction.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, he also teaches and performs research at UMASS Medical School and is responsible for teaching 25 residents in Orthopaedic Surgery and two fellows in Sports Medicine. He also serves on the UMASS Medical Advisory Board, the UMASS Orthopaedic Resident Selection Committee, and UMASS Sports Medicine Fellowship Selection Committee.
